Mobility Transition
Turning away from conventional patterns of thought and behaviour
Traditional mobility behavior is changing more than ever. Whether in passenger or freight transport, on roads or water, on rails or in the air - all areas of our mobility system are facing the greatest transformation since the invention of the automobile over 130 years ago.

The path to net zero in traffic is not a purely technological change or a simple improvement of today's traffic flows through continuous infrastructure expansion or digitalization. It is an interaction of various factors in newly forming ecosystems in which users and the needs of society have to be brought into harmony.
Mobility transition is a joint effort
The mobility transition as a holistic approach requires new mobility solutions that lead to comfortable, unrestricted, fast, safe, reliable, efficient and affordable mobility of people and goods. In (large) cities in particular, there are also special challenges, such as population growth, increasing mobility requirements, limited infrastructure, traffic jams and noise emissions. Preventing negative health effects and impending driving bans is a correspondingly large task here. In rural areas too, there are major tasks to be carried out to strengthen public transport and to open up new mobility options in addition to individual transport.

There is also political and social pressure to ensure a healthier environment for the residents. The mobility transition therefore also requires a change in awareness. This comprehensive social change will presumably represent the most difficult of all challenges in this context in the next few years. Because new mobility solutions are required that are further developed into increasingly attractive offers based on user experience and at the same time offer solutions for the diverse requirements.
Recognize net zero in mobility as an opportunity
The challenges outlined make it clear: The mobility transition is not just about technological change and improving the flows of traffic - the mobility transition must be approached from all relevant points of view. Only if there is a social consensus the greenhouse gas emissions of the transport sector can be reduced, pollutant emissions reduced, the opportunities of digitalization used and individual mobility improved - towards a more comfortable, unrestricted, fast, safe, reliable, efficient and affordable mobility.

Intermodality and cross-linked mobility are not a foreign word for us, but everyday life. Whether on land, on water or in the air, whether time-sensitive goods, transport and storage of dangerous goods, or innovative mobility solutions for passenger mobility. In routing management, warehouse logistics or in general management. Our strategic foresight and our operational footprint help us today to assess and evaluate the opportunities and risks of the mobility transition, to understand its dependencies and to initiate and successfully implement appropriate measures.
